We learn from our mistakes, and we (l)earn from our reports. Don’t we? The year that has passed left us with some interesting perspectives on the future of employment in IT world, so, if you are thinking about changing your job or profession, or if you are still indecisive on your future education, you should dig deeper into IT, and here are the reasons why.
Fortune 500 and Ad Agencies: Expertise and talent needed
Online Marketing Institute issued a report The State of Digital Marketing Talent that included 747 executives’ opinion on the state of digital marketing skills and training from Fortune 500 and other major global ad agencies. The conclusion? Young college graduates might succeed professionally if they possess necessary skills and training: only 8 % of the surveyed executives believe their digital team is strong in all areas. The report also concluded that companies have trouble distinguishing those with right skills and those without, while only 22 % of large companies have a level-setting programme, and many of the companies do not frequently use skill assessment plan. Although excellent news for some ambitious young people, I believe the report also poses a question about the educational system, right?
Kickstarter: 3 million people pledged $480 million to projects
This year 19,911 projects were successfully funded and among those projects many great ideas came from IT related fields.
The best way to get financial support for your ideas is to use any of the similar funding platforms (we certainly saw the importance and success that many start-ups accomplished yesteryear). Having an idea that will change any of our aspects of life or benefit our overall life, is challenging enough, but without proper funding and financial support that ideas are just a piece of paper, sort of speaking. Financial supporting platforms such as this one offer you a chance to both bring change to the world you live in and employ your creativity and knowledge.
2014 Job Board: Think big about social media
It seems that 2014 is going to be about social media in many ways. According to the survey Small Business: Then and Now by Constant Contact (from May 2013) 87% of small business use social media for marketing. Given that more and more business is going to target its customers online, social media related jobs will certainly have a bright future. So, these are the six jobs you can build your career in:
Search engine optimization specialist
I once heard that if you want to hide something from the public eye, make sure it is on Google’s second page. No one wants to be on the second page, thus SEO specialists are crucial for any business that needs to be visible for current or potential customers.
Social media strategist
Developing a “healthy” business – customer relationship is what social media strategists do. Any business that doesn’t have a public profile on social media sites is like not having an info line.
Online community manager
A person who promotes company’s product and services popularising the brand and increasing web traffic with social media tools and new online technologies is an online community manager. As a link between company and online community, an online community manager is a key that opens the door for future success.
Social media marketing manager
As long as company’s social media marketing strategy is successful, the brand and the products will drive more audience and position very highly in their industry. Given that every social site needs different marketing skill tactics, social media marketing manager has to make sure that every tactic will have the best results.
Social media marketing coordinator
Social media are becoming a necessity for promotion and marketing, so every business needs a person who will administer social media accounts and properly use social media analysis tools.
Blogger or social media copywriter
To attract readers, followers and potential consumers, every business also needs a blogger or social media copywriter. To be present online, companies need quality content.
2014 Social Media Marketing Trends: Google+, LinkedIn and Myspace
If you wish to know why social media jobs will become top searched professions, see what is said to happen with social media networks.
With its new design and iPhone app, Myspace caught the public eye positioning itself as a new-old network for music lovers and bands. As a professional network, LinkedIn is said to become a major network for B2B business, especially since launching Influencers program. On the other hand, Google+ is gaining an important role in Google’s search algorithm.
Analytics also have foreseen the growth of image and visual-video related networks and apps. Pinterest, Instagram and Vine have already deserved an important role in marketing strategy, while Slideshare, Tumblr, Path and Mobli will continue to grow.
The world is changing rapidly due to the development of internet technologies, and a career in IT industry is both challenging and appealing. However, before you make a decision and step into this world, be honest with yourself and know your skills and abilities, because the best results will come only if you are committed truly and completely. And if you are still waging, and you need one more “for” reasons, see the inside of web 2.0 start-up office and benefits of this working atmosphere (you have probably seen the inside of major IT companies).
